I'm coming out of lurkdom to say thanks to the moderators who have made this group a sucess. You are dedicated and special. I've not checked out or participated in other groups so I'm not sure what is out there and available to all of us but when I first got started with my 350D I received alot of good suggestions for the questions/problems I was having. And, even though I haven't even used my 350D for a bit of time due to the convenience and portability of my el cheapo canon 570 IS, I still read the posts that are of interest to me. Yes, you can stone me for this (camera useage) however I have been a photo buff since the 60's when my first camera was a used minolta sr1? with no light meter! I must say the 350D is by now taking a back seat to some of the newer models out there, but there are those of us still using it and encountering problems or issues that exists. So, we still need help. Ok, so I have my eye on the XSI body, and if that purchase becomes a reality, hopefully I would assume that this group (with the new name) would have enough contributors with this model to share information. Bottom line - whatever name those of you more knowledable than I decide on I'll go with it and glean what I can from the contributors there. Thanks again. While we may have all gravitated here due to camera model we own, the discussions on this group were barely about the specific 350d at all. When people ask to join the group we only screen memberships for spam, we never ask or make it a pre-requisite that you even own a 350d. So basically, anyone with an interest in photography and wasnt a spammer was allowed to join, it did not matter what camera you owned. The discussions here were mostly of lenses, flashes, and filters that are mostly universal to all Canon EOS cameras. Some of us have upgraded or have added to the equipment we have, and still have not felt the need to change or move to another group. In the past 2 years we have shared images made with many canon models, asked opinions on shooting techniques, learned a new trick or two within photoshop, shared links to reviews of upcoming camera models and equipment and overall have received lots of great advice from amateur to professional level photographers no matter what equipment they own. We all share a common love of photography, and photography is the same no matter what Canon model you shoot with. Yes, certain features from model to model may be different, but photography technique is the same. Give me a 350d and a 40D that share a lens and I will produce almost the exact image to the naked eye because from model to model, my technique will not change. Because of this, I see no real reason why the name should stay the same. That is the reason keeping the original name was not made a choice. This is the most discussion I have seen on this group in the past few months, and I think that speaks volumes in itself. We decided the name change was inevitable or the group would soon cease to be relevant, and we extended the courtesy of asking the members to help us decide on a new name. The group will always be open to ideas and discussions of the 350d, I am not letting mine become irrelevant anytime soon, and it will also be open to discussions about other models, techniques and critiques of images, as it has always been. Let us not be afraid of change. When the vote comes to a close, we as a group will move forward, sharing our ideas and love of photography as we always have, but just with a different name. For those of you who feel they have been slighted in some way or feel they cannot move forward with us, you too are free to seek another group thats fits your exact 350d needs. I wish you well, and I will be sorry to see you go, because I may have learned something new from you in the future if I already haven't. Thanks... -Rob in NYC ----- Original Message ---- From: bobworthingham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 8:49:44 PM Subject: [Canon-350D] Keep the existing name I did not vote because my choice was not on the list. In order for the vote to be a fair reflection of all the members of the group, you should have included keeping the group name the same as it is now. I have a 350D and that is why I joined this group. There are other yahoo groups that are more general in scope. If that is what I wanted, I would join one of those, such as the Digital Rebels. I want to share information and ideas with other users of the Canon 350D. If members of this group want to discuss other cameras, they are free to seek out other groups to join.
