W.G.: Self evident truth, call it what you want. Different strokes for
different folks so to speak? Train this way for endurance, train this way for
power, train this way for........? I have worked with various "athletes" for a
period of 30 years, so I guess I have come to my conclusions empirically. The
concept specificity defines itself appropriately in sports, but not
conditioning, so you do what you can with what your dealt. I have people that
literally
hurl themselves at their exercise sequence and the pace is astonishing, and
I have others who simply cannot. You see the differences based on years of
observation. Some are athletes, some are not. The action takes place during
the
execution of their exercises and again the time in between is individual. Do
we pick up the pace? Sure, but we make sure that they do not fail do to a
cardiovascular bottleneck. We have used NON STOP training and we used it over
20 years ago and it was referred to as Metabolic Conditioning. Was it
necessary? In some cases yes, and others no. Maybe it got people more
psychologically
ready? We have used it off and on over a long period of time. I personally
go at a pace that has to be seen, but is it necessary? I am not so sure, but
you don't have a chance to think about that when you exercise, you just get
after it and survive it, and then move on. With athletes or otherwise, you
gradually break them in, and then eventually push them as hard as possible and
based on my experience you take them at a pace that works best for them. I
train a MMA fighter and he adapted to his sport long before I ever met him. I
simply push him harder than he could for himself. When he's ready he gets
after
it. I'll strengthen him the best way I know possible and then he gets in the
"cage." He is part of team Gracie. I'm sure he has never had any hesitation
into the ring. So the original post was about "rest intervals," and to
arbitrarily suggest exact time intervals is just plain silly. Let's agree that
we
just disagree and let the said poster make sound decisions based on hopefully
common sense.
