The only time you should run is if someone bigger than you is chasing you? :)

I had the same kind of situation last year when I tried to gain strength and
stamina.
I think that aerobic training and growing muscle and loosing weight is a
difficult combination.

Getting stronger and leaner and building endurance all at the same time is
possible. (Building muscle mass not so easy.)

Running is not the only way to do aerobic training - so Barry, why do you
want to run?
(I run because it is easy - and we do not have snow any more - so I cannot
ski.)

I think the first thing you have to decide is what do you want from your
training?
Often if you don't have any goals, like competitions, it's good to do a lot
of different kinds of exercises.

(If you want to develop something, you need to do the things that are most
difficult for you:-)

And a direct opinion to your question - do both weights and running!
(Or think of it as any aerobic training and any strength training)>>>
