Hi Paul If you read the reference provided by Mark Tucker on the thread about Max heart rate and the Body limit, there is an interview with Ross Tucker talking about Noakes' paper. http://mattfitzgerald.org/blog/?p=53. In that interview Ross has some points about the central Governor theory, heat dissipation and the reduced body mass of the black athletes. Essential saying that the very much lighter black runners would be able to dissipate the heat generated by their bodies, far more effectively than the bigger white athletes. So the brain's prediction of exhaustion allows a much higher level of exertion without having to manage or reduce pace in these lighter athletes which allows them to train harder, which enables them to win more races. Ross has some good stuff on his web page http://scienceofsport.blogspot.com/ (which you referred me to before). Comments? Best regards Nick Tatalias Johannesburg South Africa P.S.
