[Supertraining] Re: Collegiate Basketball Periodization Program Phillip Mon Jul 14 02:23:30 2008
I am starting tomorrow with an assessment of the players. I will be measuring height, weight, bf% 5 RM Bench Press, 5 Rm Squat, Standing Broad Jump, CM Vertical Jump. From that initial assessment I'm going to develop a generalized program, and either regress for those showing de training, or low performance in certain areas, and progress it for those showing increased aptitude. I plan on doing initially a linear periodization program, as per the coaches assessment most of the athletes have at best rudimentary skills within a weight room. I plan on initially working on ensuring the athletes have sound functional movement and no inherent muscle discrepancies or poor motor function. Once those are addressed I plan on implementing a program designed to build baseline strength and hypertrophy, and then progress more into explosive movements and plyometrics, and enhance "special strength" or "speed strength" as the season approaches in December. This is a 6 month macrocycle with several mesocycles of 4-12 weeks in duration, depending upon the readiness of the athletes. Each weeks microcycle will dependent upon the response of the athletes to the previous weeks microcycle. Phillip Garrison, CSCS Mesa, AZ
