[Fedora-ia64-list] cleaning up kernel modules for ia64 Doug Chapman Tue May 05 14:02:05 2009
It appears that the entire problem with booting the CowboyBoot installer
from CD is due to the size of the initrd.img has gone beyond an EFI
limit. The easiest fix would be to remove any drivers for hardware that
is not likely to ever exist on an ia64 system. Note that this would
include runtime also, not just install.
This would fix the install issue and also make kernel builds go faster.
Note that this list is based on my experience with HP hardware. If you
know of ia64 systems from other vendors that are likely to include this
hardware please speak up.
I think we can safely remove:
soundcard support
wireless support
pcmcia
bluetooth
firewire
drivers/parport
drivers/input:
gameport
joystick
lirc
tablet
touchscreen
drivers/isdn
drivers/mmc (aka MultiMediaCard / SD card)
drivers/net:
appletalk
can
hamradio
irda
drivers/ssb (Sonics Silicon Backplane)
drivers/uwb (Ultra Wideband devices)
probably several in drivers/video...
thoughts?
