RE: [BMW-Mini-Cooper] 2003 Mini - convenience mode fault (failure) Auford Sun Apr 01 09:01:40 2012

If by "convenience mode" you mean by holding the unlock button on the key
fob while approaching the car and having the car unlock, the widows go down
and the sun roof pop up then I have had a couple of events resulting in so
rain inside the car. I blame the few events of mine on sitting down and
something in my pocket pressing against the key fob. We have had very
similar incidents with my wife's 2005 Rendezvous doing similar things
(unlocking or the horn going into alarm mode). Her car did this one time
this week while I was parking the MINI next to her car.

Hi All - if you are not familiar with the convenience mode, this failure
means that the windows and roof open without be asked to. While this was
happening, I could hear a relay clicking somewhere behind me. Since we were
leaving town for a couple of days, I took it to the dealer. Of course, it
did not behave badly at the dealer. Although it did it four times in the 2
hours before it went to the dealer. So -- the service tech decided to
'disconnect' the convenience mode feature and have us take the car. I have
not talked with the tech, so I do not know if the disconnect is mechanical
or thru the computer. And we have not had a problem since we picked up the
car.

Have any of you had this problem? If you have, what was the cause, and the
repair?

Thanks
Les
