Re: [SCT] Carb Overflow. JACK ETHRIDGE Sun Feb 19 09:00:59 2012

I haver reasched the conculsion that the only thing that could have caused
neddle to not shut of the gas flow was trash in the neddle seat. I remember at
on point seeing crud in the seat. It was cleaned but by this time the float had
got so bent out shap that it didn't work as it should. If I or the Guy working
on the problem had thought to clean the seat first thing I think the overflow
problem would have been solved. Bing told me that to adjust the float the carb
needed to be at a 15 degree angle. Adjusting with the carb upside down is no
longer recomended. The guy that installed a new float said he has been
installing them the way BMW tought him some 30 years ago. Install it, check the
gas depth in the bowel and adjust till you have between 25/27 mm depth. He bent
the tim one time and it cam out with 26.6 mm., and when the tab just touched
the nedle the float was parallel with the carb body. Leason learned the hard
way.

then, you DO have an overflow.  There are two that act as overflows, and vents.
One is up the carb body; the other is the thin brass tube that sticks up from
the bottom of the float bowl.

That was probley it. The Float seat was cleaned and a new float installed by
simpley mesuring the
amount of gas in the bole. With one adjustment the gas mesured 26.6 mm. That is
within the 25 to 27
mm required. There is not an overflow and the tab that lifts the nedle was just
touching the nedle
and the float was paralle to the carb body. A verry simple way to adjust the
float.

NO OVERFLOW?? You have the Bing "alcohol free float kit"...??
If so, that requires a VERY careful adjustment, and is different from the stock
one piece float
assembly.
