ld: Error: Overflow detected in relocation value

Hi,

I am trying to link with arc-elf32-gcc. It gives error message 

"Error: Overflow detected in relocation value; Relocation value should be 
between 255 and -256 whereas it  268"

However this is probably because of undefined symbol.  This problem was 
reported earlier , see the link

Does anyone know if there is a patch for it ?
