Did you try Dumper %ARGS?

me. I have verified that there is a request payload being sent in the
browser. It seems that Mason must be eating it - which is ok, but I just
need to know how to get it from mason then. I also tried $r->read(....), but
no luck.

Mod_dumpio might do what you want. Otherwise try looking at $r apache
request. Eg $r->body or $r->upload? Neither give you the entire raw http
request sent to apache, and $r->body should be same as %ARGS is mason. Hope
this helps:
