Re: Can I develop iPhone applications using Java? Joshua Marinacci Thu Jun 25 16:00:35 2009
Could we please end this thread? This is a mailing list for Java developers who want to make great desktop apps for Mac OSX. It's not a place for non-Java developers, or for iPhone developers. There are other Apple mailing lists for that.
Thank you,
Josh

I suspect that Apple is refusing to put Flash on the iPhone for other reasons (than "ruining user experience"). Maybe they want too push their own video format or maybe Apple is using this as leverage against Adobe in other negotiations.Flash is proprietary, QuickTime is the basis of the MP4 standards. There's no reason to prop up a proprietary thing like Flash when there are equivalent open standards available (MP4/QT, DHTML/HTML5, JavaScript).Worse, Flash web sites can't be properly bookmarked, indexed & searched, etc. but they demo well. So technically unsavy corporate decision makers fall for them, and web designers use what's quick, easy and impresses customers. So Flash keeps going. Now, if a few important platforms refuse to support Flash, that cycle might get broken. Who wants to have a web site that doesn't work on the iPhone?Ronald _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
