[mb-devel] suggestion: Ignore metadata until after matching Mats Ahlgren Sat Aug 12 07:17:08 2006

Oh, sorry... as the subject I meant to type "Suggestion: Ignore metadata until after matching" -- no offense, didn't mean to say the current implementation is bad. =)

Hello,

Suggestion:

I often find that MusicBrainz is incapable of finding a song when it tries to match metadata. For example, if I have a song with "Céline Dion" as the artist, MusicBrainz will fail at properly matching the song because of the accent -- I have to delete the artist tag (and usually other metadata) in order to get MusicBrainz to work properly. The same problem holds for when I want to re- match a song; I have to delete all the metadata to get MusicBrainz to retry.

I think MusicBrainz should only use metadata to rank results; metadata should not be part of the search query.

(I'm not sure if there's a wiki or anywhere I can place this so the general community can see it...)
